No-one could have predicted the longevity of house music, a genre that grew out of the hybrid sounds of disco, funk, European new wave and the development of drum machines and samplers. From the early works of the Detroit and Chicago pioneers in the mid 80s, right through to today's software enabled, minimalist dance sounds, house music has influenced so many, and brought together dance floor devotees from all four corners of me globe. So many classic records have hit the platters over this period, but with the desire to progress the music scene at a rapid pace, so many of these landmark tracks have been filed under ‘forgotten gems’… up til now.!
BACK IN THE BOX is a brand new series from leading UK house label, NRK. Taking the World's leading and longest serving Dj legends! B.I.T.B. invites them to plunder deep into their collections to those old house records that rocked the party time and time again, records that have since been left dormant on the shelves, waiting for the right moment to be dusted off (and this is that moment!). We're talking about those records that shaped and influenced a whole music scene, from that golden era of house music from the late 80s-mid 90s. A mix that will evoke great memories of lost nights on the dancefloor, B.LT.B is the trip back in time you've been waiting for.
UK house pioneer Joey Negro (AKA Dave Lee, Jakatta, Doug Willis, Sunburst Band, Akabu) steps up to the platters to mix the first in this new series. Joey Negro began producing in 1988 and also founded the influential Republic Records (home to Blaze, Turntable Orchestra, Kym Mazelle & more); producing and releasing a string of acid house tracks, the first wave of garage house records and disco sampling club hits. Setting up Z Records after the demise of Republic, Joey Negro became a much sought after producer, working with the likes of Take That ("Relight My fire"), Crystal Waters ("Gypsy Woman') and recently Robbie Williams. Negro also found considerable success with the Jakatta project, spawning a Top 5 single in “American Dream". And so it is no surprise that a Dj with so much heritage has excelled himself with the selection on the very first BITB compilation. A memory evoking selection of vocal stormers ("Love Commandments", "No Time For Crying" and "True Love") sit comfortably side by side with acid and techno house classics from the likes of Underground Resistance, Bam Bam and the groundbreaking LFO. Reaching deep into his collection, stone chid remix classics have been placed back in the box from the likes of David Morales ("Strobelight Honey")' Danny Tenaglia ("When U Love Someone") and Joe Smooth “Let’s Go"), with more forgotten gems unearthed by Mood II Swing, Neal Howard and Derrick- May's “R Theme". Joey Negro's trip down memory lane finishes Up with the beautiful nu-disco classic of Faze Action's "In The Trees".
