This latest edition in the Bargrooves Black series is the perfect soundtrack for that 4am witching hour: tunes that tickle your synapses and make you move your feet. There is just you, the DJ, the speakers, the strobes and the dancefloor, with a soundtrack that rides a train of rampant riffs and growling basslines. Bargrooves gets a little badass on you and boy, does it sound good.

CD1 kicks off gently with quality house from the likes of Francois Dubois, Solar Heights’ ‘Vice’ and the wonderful ‘Flashbacks’ by Sebastian Davidson. By the time we hit track seven though, and the sinister stylings of Shafunkers’ ‘Tick Tock’ it becomes clear that this is different from other Bargrooves album you’ve ever heard before. Broody and techno-tinged – it’s just a taste of the tougher stuff that’s still to come. Listen up for the Barrat & Falconi’s remix of Wink’s ‘Higher State of Consciousness’, Spooky’s ‘New Light’ and you know you’re now sucked in to the Bargrooves black hole of BIG tunes.

CD2 starts off with the quirky Jimpster remix of Motorcitysoul’s ‘Aura’followed by the swirling soundscapes of Timewriter’s remix of Above & Beyond’s ‘Home’. Aficionados of sweet vocal house will love what comes up next, as the future classic that is Way Out West’s Jody Wistnerhoff’s remix of Moussa Clarke’s ‘Love Key’ gets dropped in for a truly cheese-free hands-in-the-air moment, followed by man of the moment Nic Fanciulli’s ‘Cat out of the Bag’.

Tracks that just keep on building, swirling melancholic synths and uplifting melodies that remind you of all that is good about the music we call dance. Smoke machine-and-lasers moments don’t get much better than this.
