If ever there was a DJ custom designed to mix a Bargrooves release, then Andy Caldwell is that man. This San Francisco-born sonic ambassador is renowned for his innovative and forward-thinking soundscapes. As a musician, songwriter, producer and remixer he's in demand internationally for his trademark sound - a narcotic thrust of soulful, melodic house with a shimmering electro-funk edge.

What do I mean? Well, just take a glance at the tracklisting for a taste of the new
Bargrooves flavour. Opening with the sweet tones and spacey electronica Dr Who's Come Together feat Robert Owens, we then move into the haunting chords of Will Saul's Pause. This slow burning deep house groove builds to a euphoric peak that is as much for the head as it is for the feet.

Man of the moment Glen Nichol's (aka Future Funk Squad) is also present and correct in the form of the insanely fat Audio Damage, coming strong this time with a delightful rerub by D Ramirez. Andy Caldwell also drops his own track, Warrior – an object lesson in the uplifting, healing power of sweet house music.

Flip to disc two and check the Cafe Del Mar-style sounds of Sven Van Hees's Sun Goes Down or the bright chords, winding synths and devastating deepness of James Flavour's Da Ride and you'll know that we are in now immersed in a world of shifting, textured electronic body music. Add in the pumping scouse house of Yousef and Scott Mac on It's All About Me or the 6am New York sound of Dennis Ferrer's Underground Is My Home and it's clear that Caldwell is joining the dots between the dark and light side of dance music. The final tear-up comes courtesy of the oldschool piano refrain of Sucker DJ's Midnight Rainbow, reminding all house heads just why a Bargrooves compilation rocks so hard.
