Ron Paul 2008 - Hope for America

What were your earliest musical influences.?
I would say Micheal Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Paul Trouble, Masters At Work, Kerri Chandler.

Who was your first musical hero.?
Micheal Jackson, he was the man back in the 80's!

When did you get into Djing.?
I started djing when I was 11 about 10 years ago. It all started when my father would come home from work and play his soul/disco and Motown records in our back room. I used to listen and stair at the record spinning around the deck so one day I asked if I could put on a record. About a week later my father started buying me my own records and the rest is history.

When did you do your first production.?
I made some tracks when I was about 16/17, they where rubbish but looking back they still had feeling to them. I guess over the last 3 years or so is when I have been serious about my production. I keep improving and learning more and more which is very positive!

Have you always been in the music industry or did you do another job.?
For those who know me I tried temping for a while but that lasted 2 weeks max. I have gone all out for the music for years now, I have had some bad times with money refusing to go to work but I just feel I need to put my energy and soul into what I love and its starting to pay off now so I am gonna keep doing what I do.

What was the first track that you had released.?
A track called Bittersweet, I got the Samba La Casa boys to remix my version for me which helped with the sales a few years ago. This was a cool simple track but again my production has improved so much since then lol.

What was it that got you noticed.?
To be honest probably me bugging people and saying book me, send me records, play my record. I often can't rest if I have something I want done in my mind until its complete so that has helped but its no good to talk if you haven't got the goods to deliver!

How would you describe your sound.?
DJing it depends on venue, if its small then I will play purest underground but for a big club I am known for my Disco/Funky/Deep house sets. For production I go under the name Splash with Article P for the more soulful production and remixes. I produce more disco/Latino house under my own name and other alias for main room records.

How has the last 12 months been for you.?
The last 12 months have been by far the best year over the 10 years. I have a great team around me who I trust from producer's to DJ's to my agent or my staff at Sucasa. I have really had to sacrifice everything to keep on the ball, you have to if you want to stay on top of your game because there is always some one fighting for your place. I some times am up at 4am emailing people which most people don't realise that this music game is a 16 hour day job!

Do you find it easy to remix a track - is there a particular element of the original track that you look for to expand on or do you simply go with what you feel.?
A remix is always fun to do, I normally make my own record with a remix and always go with my feeling other wise the track I am remixing is false. I can't stand producer's who stick to the same formula for over 5 years. Yea have your own style but man how many tracks can you remix all sounding the same with same arrangement?

Are you doing much Djing at the moment.?
DJing has picked up allot this year and is getting more and more busy. I was touring HKong and Thailand in April and due back to Asia this August. This summer in the UK I am at some big parties so all is looking good.

What do you think to the Soulful House scene at the moment.?
I think the soulful house scene is growing again. About 5 years ago for me it was stale but thanks to the new blood coming through it has given the scene a new dimension. With the new producer's coming through that has only made the older Kat's step up there game and they are doing just that so I believe its healthy. You have got Defected and Hed Kandi keeping the scene going on the main stream which is vital and I am happy the Disco House is still going strong!

What labels/Producers are 'doing it' for you at the moment.?
Joey Negro, MR V, Marlon D, Martino, Franck Roger, Samba La Casa, MAW so so many.

Are there any projects your working on or have coming up you can tell us about?
I am working on a remix for NYSoul at the moment for Martino from 83 West under Splash. I have just remixed Marlon D 'Taste' and working on a cool Disco House track for the summer. I am also working on a E.P with Paul Trouble Anderson which I am really looking forward to. Trouble is a Giant and to work with one of my heroes is a massive buzz.

Do you have your own studio.?
I have 2 studio's in London all though I only use one for mastering and mixing at the pro tools studio.

What goals do you have for the next 12 months.?
Ha ha I can't say that mate but I will be pushing every week to better the last week just gone.

Is there a website where we can find out more about you and your music?
Yep. www.djkrislopez.com and www.sucasabeats.com

What are the currently big tunes in your box that are really working your dance floors?
Love Will by Stephanie Cook, Higher from Martino on NYSoul, London Rawness Project.

Are there any DJ's that you look forward to playing alongside?
I love to play along Paul Trouble for the vibes, I also look forward to djing along side Joey Negro as he has so much love for Disco which is where my heart is at
