Tis’ the season to be jolly and King Street are right into the spiritual side of Christmas with this lovely package of festive tuneage perfect for the season.
Honoring the very spirit and wonder of what makes us feel really good around those last few weeks in December, King Street Sounds has put some House in your holidays with Christmas In The House, a very warm and heartfelt digital-only compilation of original songs written and performed by the King Street/Nite Grooves artist roster especially for the holidays. All the soulful house players are here to ring in the season with all the tunes guaranteed to get you in the festive spirit without the jingle bells and the cheese factor.
Songwriter/singer/producer Stephanie Cooke, her husband and Pastor Kenny Bobien, Diviniti and Pirahnahead (of Detroit’s Women on Wax collective), and DJ Oji & Joi Cardwell all deliver aural treats to fill your funky stocking with holiday cheer. DJ Spen and the Muthafunkas funk it up this holiday with “Our First Christmas.” Marc Evans (“The Way You Love Me”) and a slew of other vocalists create the background and stellar singer Sharon Adams is the lead.
Revered songstress and big producer Monique Bingham & Frankie Feliciano team up on the stirring “December”, a soulful tune that would find its home in DJ sets at any time of year. Nite Grooves recording artist, ananda project turns in two songs, each highlighting one of their two vocalists, Terrance Downs and Heather Johnson.
New York producer/remixer extraordinaire Eric Kupper and Jihad Muhammad each offer instrumental takes on the sounds of the season. Eric takes the solemn classic “Silent Night” and turns it into a tasty, conga-driven groover with its candy coated Rhodes piano flourishes while Jihad Muhammad’s “It’s Holiday Time” which sounds like a sambafied, uptempo outtake from Vince Guaraldi Trio’s A Charlie Brown Christmas sessions.
Christmas In The House sings volumes above the traditional classics and is sure to be a new beginning and fresh attitude towards the way one sees current hum-drum holiday (let’s not call them Christmas) songs. Wishing these songs will conjure up visions of soulful sugarplums dancing in your head and make your holiday that much more joyful.
