David Morales returns to the Ministry Of Sound on the 2nd February after a 5 year absence to celebrate a fantastic 20 long years at DEF MIX and to promote his latest album Defected presents Def Mix – a 20 year anniversary compilation.

David Morales is a behemoth of the house scene who began performing before many of today clubbers were even born. Know as a record producer, remixer and one of the original superstar DJ’s, he has an enviable position as one of the world’s best known House pioneers (with fellow Def Mix partner Frankie Knuckles). He is credited as the inventor of the modern dance remix after making Mariah Carey's ‘Dreamlover’ one of the biggest crossover House records ever as well as remixing Ce Ce Penniston’s ‘Finally’ (1991). He was also the guy that brought us ‘Needin U’; arguably the biggest House track of the mid to late 90’s and has remixed what can only be called a who’s who of contemporary
His sound is a mix of classic House mixed with energetic, contemporary and tribal beats and he is certainly one of the DJ performers that everyone should see spin.

Morales is joined in the main room by Copyright; the UK’s new House music prodigies and a DJ duo that are seriously on the up and are already international stars and Defected label head and house music pioneer Simon Dunmore

In the Bar you’ll be treated to the sounds of Fish Go Deep – famed for their phenomenal urban House monster ‘The Cure and The Cause’ which touched every House DJ in the UK – followed by Baltimore’s DJ Spen (formerly one half of the renowned Basement Boys) and a true international House music expert on delivering melodic beats and soulful flavours.
Finally in the lounge you will discover The Funkin Soul Collective who are not to be missed. Experience a fresh taste of 70's & 80's Soul, Funk, Disco, Rare Groove & Boogie.

Saturday 2nd February

Previous Leaders Of The New School EP's have been breaking ground for artists such as Richard Dinsdale and Patric la Funk.   ** HAPPY NEW YEAR **
A big Thank you to everyone who came to our New Years Eve party at Heaven, we all had a great time back in our old home and it was great to see so many old faces as well as lots of new ones! We hope to bring some more parties there again throughout 2008, watch this space ;)

After an exhausting six and a half hour journey we finally made it to the B&B we were staying at, and after calling the wife to say we had arrived safely and say goodnight to my kids it was time to start the festivities :)

This was part two of the Weekender’s 40th anniversary celebrations, seeing twenty years of soulful music enjoyed by an ever increasing number dedicated followers as each year new people experience the wonder of the Southport Weekender and return time after time to get another fix of the world’s best soulful music event.

I’m not going to harp on about who I saw cos’ to be honest unless you were there it’s not going to mean much, but at the same time some acts need to be mentioned.. Firstly is Kerri Chandler who turned up the heat with the ultimate finale set using three Reel 2 Reel units!! Todd Terry was good and played a lot of his own productions, Tony Humphries was excellent playing a truly show stopping set.. Phil Asher,  Fanatix & David Harness were all good too in the main room. And my other pics of the weekend would be Glenn Underground, Gilles Peterson, Al Kent who’s show with Lady Alma was wicked! Mad Matts hyped it up to the max! and Kev Beedle never fails to disappoint.

On the Saturday night it was my turn to grace the decks in the VIP room where I played a very enjoyable and well received set before handing over to Chicago legend Boo Williams who laid down some very tasty tracks that gripped all in the room. Leroy Burges and Glenn Underground made an appearance for a while to catch Boo’s set. After him came the Manchester master producers the Audiowhores, Graham and Adam who in turn rocked the VIP room in fine style.. Next we charged to the Funk Base to catch Hip Hop legend Marly Marl, and boy he delivered a full-on set of old school flavours that got everybody jumpin’!

Without doubt my main highlight of the weekend was catching the one and only Karizma on Friday night who ROCKED the Powerhouse to it’s foundations yet again!! Check YouTube for the vid’s! I was too bombed out to catch him on Saturday in the B-Bar but by all accounts he rocked it once more!

For my friend Paul who came up with me he was one of the many Southport ‘virgins’ there, was unsure what to expect but was simply blown away by the whole event, from the music, the atmosphere, the rooms and above all the people!! All together to enjoy the music they love… Needless to say he is now looking forward to a return trip!

In all it was another amazing weekend and that feeling will be echoed in all the reviews you’ll read about Southport. It IS the finest gathering of like-minded music lovers anywhere and you really do need to experience it sometime.

On site tickets or Southport 42 in May08 are selling very fast so if you want to be there you had better act quick!

It's been a long hiatus for London Label Bitches Brew and they are indeed back with something rather different on the form of “Musical Blaze-Up” by Wild Rumpus (features former members of Captain Beefheart, KLF and Trojan Sound System).
