It's been a long hiatus for London Label Bitches Brew and they are indeed back with something rather different on the form of “Musical Blaze-Up” by Wild Rumpus (features former members of Captain Beefheart, KLF and Trojan Sound System). This track is described as Country and Dub meets Electronica! Nothing like you have ever heard before!!
Imagine Lee Scratch Perry on LSD, hosting a Romany barn dance on the set of The Wicker Man and you’re nearly there…. “Bluegrass Reggae” is here.
Musical Blaze-Up is an unexpected, yet perfect, marriage of catchy hooks, deep dancehall vocals and psychedelic, country guitar. It’s like nothing you’ve heard before, but it’s got something for everyone.
The track has already secured fans amongst tastemaker DJs as diverse as Radio One’s Rob da Bank, Huw Stephens and featured on Prins Thomas and Lindstrom's Essential Mix, Radio Six’s Nemone and Steve Lamacq and XFM’s James Hyman, Electrik Chair and Mash. Club remixes are courtesy of Rub N Tug and Rob Mello.
Colleen Murphy, aka Cosmo, has been pushing musical boundaries since her teens. Born near Boston but relocated to NYC in ‘86, Cosmo had her own rock radio show by the age of 14 and was one of the only outside DJs ever to grace the decks at the infamous birthplace of clubbing, David Mancuso’s ‘The Loft’.
As Francois Kevorkian’s protégé, Cosmo’s work in the realms of disco, nu wave, electronica, nu jazz and crossover rock has allowed her to develop an eclectic DJ style that is beloved by DJs, promoters, clubbers across the globe. Her production skills are just as diverse, which explains this partnership with one of the guitar world’s true pioneers.
Gary Lucas was recently dubbed ‘Guitarist of 1000 Ideas’ by the New York Times and is widely considered to be the guitar world’s greatest living talent. Previously of Captain Beefheart, Gary is famed for his multi-faceted musical creativity, collaboration projects, film scores and most recently, his work with new band Gods & Monsters. As the co-writer of Jeff Buckley’s seminal ‘Grace’, Gary is no stranger to making hits, yet his passion for experimentation continues to make him one of music’s more interesting characters.
Joining Cosmo and Gary on this musical mash up are MC Brother Culture (Trojan Sound System, Manasseh Hi-Fi) and one time KLF vocalist and bassist, Black Steel (Robotics, Mad Professor). |
