You have been chosen by Traxsource to feature in their latest ad campaign - How do you feel about the whole digital revolution?
I love it! I think it's a great way of allowing those who wouldn't normally have access to some of the music available.
We have heard that you produce on the road often with your laptop…would you tell us a little about the type of hardware and software you use?
I use Logic Pro as a recording and editing tool, and no hardware except for a Tascam US 122 audio MIDI interface and an AKG precision microphone. Most of the actual production and musicianship is done in my regular studio. The laptop is great simply to catch some moments outside, as well as to stay on course with project deadlines etc.
Your musical creations are extremely diverse, do you enjoy producing one more than the others?
Jazz is first for me, but it’s all a way of communicating and expression, so none are more than others.
How do you feel about the use of Laptops for DJing…do you use any of this technology?
I am not secure in using them, however I do commend those that trust technology as much. It took me years to convert to cd’s instead of vinyl. I don't think I’ll ever play with a laptop for a gig. I do use Ableton for house mixes etc..and I think it’s great!
How did you get into House music?
I’ve always been into it since my teenage years. It was a new format of music and living close to Chicago, we heard a lot of it. As well, I spent summers there, so House was a big part of my musical impressions from early on.
What’s your favorite track on your latest album “Elements Beyond” on Strictly Rhythm and why?
“Momma’s Groove” because it brings childhood memories of my parents’ long weekend parties. There would be food, friends, good soul music all day and night for two or three days…like a rotating gathering of friends. The original “HOUSE PARTY”
You currently reside in Greece...what attracts you to this part of the world?
Everything and nothing. I am a not a creature of habit. I have traveled a great deal of the world and most parts are very similar but there are some places that are just perfect for the soul. Greece as a whole is nice, but Santorini specific is my home and only due to its vibrations and energy. I feel at peace here.
People are always curious how the Yoruba tradition and the Ifa culture are an influential and integral part of your life and music. Could you please explain?
It’s one and the same. Yoruba and Ifa are not religions (at least to me) as some would claim. It’s simply nature’s balance thru your connection with the higher source. It’s a very personal journey and is not separate from your everyday life and/or understanding of the blessings life can bring, granted you gain balance and humility.
Outside House music, what styles do you listen to & draw influences from?
Everything!
Who are your favourite producersor remixers at the moment?
I don't have a favorite, but there are a few that I think are doing interesting things and I’d like to see where they evolve. Manoo, Stefan Goldmann & Omar S.
Favourite tracks of the moment?
My Reflection (Manoo Rmx)
What can we expect from Osunlade over the next few months?
A new direction, less House music.
What does the future hold for Yoruba?
The same.
