Can you describe your personality to me in detail so I can get a good picture of your character? Be as honest as you can..
I was born in Harvey, IL. I live in Chicago now. In my opinion I would say that I am a person who thrives off of working communication. I have a heart that understands its job. That job is weathering the weight of anyone and thing that reaches out to me for help. If I can I will. If I can't. I'll make every human effort to find someone who can. Genuine effort is character and should be recognized and rewarded. Human inability turns into human inadequacy. This inadequacy spawns envy and low self esteem to name a few effects I'm a caring person. I'm really big on honor. It's not as negotiable as people think now days. There is a way in every situation to find the truth. We can all be emotionally and physically victimized .You can not control how much a person has learned. You can only field how much they know. This makes it very easy for me to forgive. The many ways people can be raised from child to adult vary. My want to be understanding and to understand grows every day. Seeing the diversity in human personality humbles the watchful and alludes the narcissistic.
What did you originally want to be when you were growing up?
I originally wanted to be a neurosurgeon. I then figured out that being an adult meant succeed through capability and ignore what doesn't positively support until it's ready to support you. Being a musician comes natural but most didn't consider it a job/career. So I did as kids do. What they are told until they figure out how everything really works.
Did your parents want you to get a proper job? What do they say now?
My mom has very unique parenting skills. I've never been afraid of her but I've also never crossed certain lines with her either. She didn't get in the way so much. She was more meticulous than she seemed to have the time for. I give her a great deal of credit for her smarts. She just wanted me to have a plan that she understood a little better. A wonderful thing happened though. She supported me any way and here I am.
Many talented musicians learn by ear, was this true for you?
I think everyone learns by ear. Your ear tells you if the tone is right, wrong and even give you the color of that tone.
What musical qualifications do you have and what instruments do you play?
I own a label with 7 working parts after first being a free lance musician. I've been awarded the top scholarship honor in the field of jazz from Berkley School of Music /Boston. I didn't except that because on the job training in the music industry is priceless. It can prove you prepared or unprepared. I have 15 years of private music teaching from the grades of 3rd through High school. Where I student taught .I don’t really know how many instruments I play. I do know that there hasn't been a band stand that I felt I couldn’t join in on the fun professionally. Not just playing' around. But really get down.
Who were your musical inspirations?
I have many musical inspirations. Bob Marley and Sons/Duke Ellington / Quincy Jones / Nile Rogers/Michael Jackson/ The Temptations /Betty Carter / Herbie Hancock/ Winton & Branford to name a few.
Is there a particular record you had wished that you had written?
No
How involved are you in the production and arrangement of your albums?
I do all of the writing, performing and producing.
Your quite established already, how many albums have you completed to date and how many record companies have you set up?
Honestly I lost count.
What do these record companies enable you to do?
The record labels I currently have facilitate my musical tastes. Rock, Classical, Jazz, Pop, Hip Hop, R&B
How have you matured musically over the projects that you have done? Do you look back at your previous albums and wish you could have done things better?
I think if you care about your work you want the best for it. I do.
Is it true that you destroy the masters to your productions so that they can not be changed or altered from the way that you want them to be?
Truthfully and honestly speaking no. I just never looked at my music as something fleeting. Some was blessed to me the great humans of our time some hear them on tape or record. A recording never compares to the real thing. If it's real.
What inspired you to create your new album Power Soul and how much of yourself have you put into it?
I hear a lot of artists especially the top selling artists on TV taking pieces of my musical style and fashion sense as well as my words which means my effect is truly being disguised in secret. These are just things I've done not what I will do.
Can you tell me about any of the tracks in particular, do they have a story?
I do not write music that doesn't mean a great deal to me.
How would you personally describe the sound and the feel of the album?
The sound and feel of the record can best be depicted by the title. Strong record birthing a new sound.
Can you tell me about a particularly amazing experience from when you have performed recently? Why was it so good?
I played in Central Park and in the pouring rain. The fans stayed and I wish I could have played longer.
What are your passions outside of music, art, films, food, cars, sport, travel?
My passions are painting, working out and handling business. I live music.
Tell me about the next project that you are excited about.
Expect the next record to surprise the listener even more. That is my goal.
