I understand you studied music from a young age, has music always been your background, or have you ever done anything different?
I did a lot of jobs in my life, i worked in an old age home for three years,  i jobbed as building worker... but i always had music in my mind.

Are you married or have any kids, do you have a strong family life?
i will marry in summer 07, and yes she has a daugher, i love my family, but as a hard studio worker and touring musician like me sometimes I'm not so much at home, like i want.

Who has influenced you over the years?
Incognito, Fela, Joyce, african cuban & brasilianmusic, music of Santeria, Batá dumming, MAW, Roy Ayers, George Benson, Ohio Players, Quincy, Sosue.

You have a very organic and melodic feel to your sound, has that always been your stlye?
I love meldoy, with every intrument... bass, percussion...., a good song has to tough me. melodies do this. yes i think thats my style. it can be orchestral or minimal, but lets keep that melodies!!

Have you always done dance, or do you dip into other music styles from time to time?
Yes i always was into dance, but i also played a lot of cuban music, jazz, funk & soul as bass & percussion player. but productions wise form y ows i love to do house.

You have had a lot of material released on Ralf Gums GoGo Music label, how did your relationship with GoGo Music start?
I send a demo to Ralf GUM. We work since 2005 now, and I think me and Ralf have really good relation ship - business wise and privat. Since this time I released a lot of 12” and to albums on GOGO. Ralf is a straight guy - supporting me and my music since day one.

How did Raw Artistic Soul form?
RAS has been formed for about the last 4-5 years, but tere is really nothing big to form about, cause ist just me.

Can you tell us a little about the band?
Peolpe often think Raw Artistic Soul is a big band jamming togeather in the studio..., but ist not!, the only guy i work close since nearly 10 years is my firend, composer and keyboarder Michael "Nivalito" Ehnes. For sure i have my fav solosist like domingo patricio who in the inner circle for example. The album "what about love" i performed with 13 headed band live, but the band came after the record. the band is not part of composition or production, they all session players. they play what we write or solo over the tunes.

What has been you favourite RAS release so far?
My latest Album - YOU GOT RHYTHM TOO, incl. Oya O feat. Wunmi, The Light feat. Ursula Rucker or Keep On Shining feat. John Gibbons.

Do you do many live shows?
As RAW Band NO, als percussion player YES.

Do you do much Djing?
Not yet.

How did you team up with Sosue?
I met her four years ago in a cafe where i played with RAW. she is a lexicon of soul & funk music, she´s spinning all that great old records and she has a lot of them, she was a great great inspiration for the Album „You Got Rhyrhm Too“. and she´s a hard critic... Togeather we will run Raw Artistic Records.
By the way.... i will marry her this summer !

You have just formed you new Raw Artistic Label, what prompted you to start it and what styles can we expect to see released?
I just wanted to to an own label form e an my future. There will be a lot of Raw Artistic Soul releases for sure, but also other artist. but always quality house, afro & soul...

Will there be any other artists/Producers appearing on the label or is it all about RAS?
Yes, next will be a remake of a big afro tune called „Kpako Solo“ from Boni Ghnadone. the original was released in 1999, it was real afro, now i gave it the right rework needed for the clubs. will be a crazy tune!

What musical qualifications do you have and what instruments do you play?
I started playing electric bass, then drums & percussion and little keys. i play a lot moog bass, have a lot of old drum mashines and new.

Where do you get your motivation, is there anything in particular that inspires you?
The biggest motivation ist the love for beats & working with musicians and singers from all diverent backgrounds. im really a studio nerd, i can stay there for a long long time... i love what i do, thats the inspration.

Is there anything new that you want to talk about in the world of Phil Kullmann at the moment? Anything that’s really exciting for you?
People! keep it warm & soulful!!

Do you feel the Soulful scene is strong at the moment?
NO

Was the album complicated to put together or did everything fall into place?
i always have 10 to 15 ideas for songs, and after a while i see what direction i wanna go... yes this album was hard work.

What producers do you admire and feel are setting the standards at the moment?
ME - LOL!!, Dennis Ferrer, Quentin Harris...

How was this years WMC for you, was it a good networking opportunity or just a bit of a party!?
Was ok, but music wise not really big thing for me, i liked the shelter party and the 7 hours set from DJ spi... but mostly i enjoyed having one week off.
