Ron Paul 2008 - Hope for America

ESSENTIAL RELEASE
DJ Pascali
Breathe to Fly (DJ Rork Mixes)
Skipper Records

I almost fell off my chair when I heard this!! DJ Rork has taken this track and come up with two equally slamming mixes. Both the vocal and the dub work so well and could easily be played together in the same set. I think the dub just does it a little more for me simply due to the amazing piano line and vocal snippet that creates such a strong groove and will have any dance floor jam packed.

Layers Of Sound
Mission
Layers Of Sound Recordingss
Layers of Sound are looking to make a mark in 2007 here we have a great uplifting track with belting vocals by Demetrios coupled with the very groovy and tight production talents of Mike Newstead.. This is the kind of music we like, full of positive vibes and ripe for the dance floor. Major support from many big names and rightly so.

Demarkus Lewis feat. John Griffin
Tell Me Why
Slip'N'Slide

Pounding out the good grooves is Demarkus Lewis, some lush and sweeping beats are graced with a nice smooth melody and a bass line that provides a perfect bed for the vocals expertly performed by John Griffen.

DJ Pope feat.Lynette Smith
Addicted
King Street Sounds
I didn't really click with this track first time around but these mixes from Pope have now grown on me and bought the spiritual beauty of the vocal to the forefront. An epic arrangement of strings and melodies to die for, certainly a piano-laden house classic.

DSF
Set Me Free
CDR
A nice jumpin’ and hands up kind of groove flowing here a fine piece of soulful & Funky House music from DSR, the guys are on fire with this one, a very jolly feel to it and a track that will deliver to the floors in a big way.

H&H Soul Survivors feat. Shuri
After Midnight
Beat Monkey Studios
Beat Monkey Records is proud to present a summer time jazz groove. This song is headed by the sweet vocal performance of Suri, with live jazz shuffling beats and dreamy chords provided by the H&H Soulsurvivors. Remix duties sees Dom Navarra bringing a touch of soul with his amazing talent. Cdock also gets To work and adds that Cdock magic we all love him for. With lots of support from the likes of KingDK and Alan of Black Vinyl, Charles Dockins www.pressureradio.co.uk Make sure you get your copy!

Juke Joint feat. Thea Austin
Deelight
Swank
Juke Joint are one duo that have a knack of putting out a continuos string of floor jamming tracks and here do it again in a big way with another huge record, their debut on Swank Recordings. Teaming up with legendary vocalist Thea Austin they drop a big track with a powerful kick and a very catchy hook. Other mixes included are from the mighty Ananda Project who take the track into broken/latin territory while upcoming producer Macam turn out a sleek tracky version. Something for all tastes.!

Liquid People pres. Danism
The Afterdark EP
MN2S
After putting out a rack of excellent vocal releases Liquid People’s Danism (Dan Liquid and Dan Nutone) go a little deeper and darker for their latest release on London’s MN2S label the ‘Afterdark EP’. This is a double A-side release with tracks ‘LSD’ & ‘Koopers Troopers’. 'LSD' is more of a peak time track that apparently drew inspiration from the James Bond theme, Features a nice pounding bassline over the beats, It has a bit more leftfield sound utilising Dan Nutone's Drum'n'Bass roots. 'Kooper's Troopers' (Named after the infamous Sergeant Kooper who kept prisoners sedated at his Parkhurst Prison on the Isle Of Wight.) is my preferred choice on this release and shows Danism's ability to adapt to new sounds. A dark yet fresh sounding tech-edged track that pounds your ears and moves your feet. Very effective music indeed.

Justin Martin
The Fugitive
Buzzin Fly
Another stonkin’ release from London’s Buzzin’ Fly records with Justin Martin’s Fugitive and Water Song. Pulsating bass lines and rhythms to die for! A very nice and well produced slice of electro funk driven house music and balanced well with be-bop style chords that will have you reaching fot the lyno and re-visiting the good old days of breakin’! Deep and mysterious sounds echo from the speakers as Justin Martin works his magic on your ears once more. Feeling this one a lot!

The Layabouts
Never Be
CDR
The Layabouts are certainly showing us what they are capable of with this release ‘Never Be’. Rocking a wicked vocal with a catchy hook that works even stronger over the chorus. I am feeling this record lots and am looking forward to more great track from these boys in 2007.

Leela James
Good Time
(Groove Junkies Mixes)
Warner
The Groove Junkies pop out two fantastic mixes here for Warner. A solid vocal mix kept true to their excellent funk style holding loads of floor appeal, and a Dub mix that is a heavy funky ride that is a track for maximum attention. They have done themselves proud once again here in a big way!!

Melchyor A
One Day
(Jazz'N'Groove Mix)
Gotta' Keep Faith
Deep and low tones are the main base for this release, an intense melodic ride of slight beats and rhythms join together for a unique sound. The Jazz'N'Groove boys keep it slight for a change and turn out a nice mellow offering as well but I would liked to have seen them go to town on this with a more pounding funky version.

Shur-I-Can
Underground Soul
TronicSole
Tom Szirtes aka Shur-I-Kan is one of the most exciting house producers around at the moment and has recently worked with labels such as NRK, Freerange, Slip and Slide, BBE, Z records and now on Tronicsole. 'Underground Soul' is a throbbing track that builds and layers into quite a crescendo. Milton Jackson adds his own interpretation of this with more of a late night electronica journey. The third track 'Dream Place' is a delicate and soulful moment that will groove you till the early hours..

Kingpinz feat. Antonia Lucas
Need You Tonight
Cayenne Recordings
This is a tad on the cheesy side to me but I still like it and it certainly does well by the floor. A great party track with loads of energy to keep the girls and boys dancing the night away.!

280 West
Lift Him Up
(Mark's Ol' Skool Mix Re-edit)
King Street Sounds
This is the second release for this brilliant uplifting gospel record. First around back in 1995 it was a favourite of mine then and still sound as good today. Mark Medoza’s mix does the business, a great pumping track with a nice bass line and beats with a clever little scratch sample all wrapped in the glorious vocals that lift the spirit of this wonderful record right to the soul..

Fabio Bacchini Vs. Redsoul
Nightfunk Voyager EP
Starfunk
The collective talents of Fabio Bacchini & Dave ‘Redsoul’ Waring come together for a full four tracks of non-stop funky-disco pimped madness.! A very enjoyable set of tracks that will add the fuel to and party, perfect grooves slammed your way by two of the brightest producers around.

Fatback Band
Feel The Fire
(Cookie Monsters Mix)
CDR
This one has grown on me lots, on my first listen I wasn’t that impressed with it mainly due to the stabbing keys at the beginning, but get past that and the track is a brilliant remix that really lifts the vocals well. A very energetic funky track to warm any dance floor.

Panevino feat. Charles Dockins
The Best Of Me
Panevino Music
This is the first release for Panevino’s brand new label and is certainly a hot one.. The guys have had several successful tracks out on various labels like Soltrenz, Look At You, Soulfuric, Map Dance, Diablo and more… but it’s here where they have been concentrating their music recently. Panevino themselves turn out a very impressive vocal mix with lots of funky and soulful appeal but it’s the DJ Meme’s ‘Philli’ style mix that has got me grooving big time! He has successfully produced a mix overflowing with the SalSoul style disco sound just like Dimitry From Paris did with Ron Hall’s ‘The Way You Love Me’ and we all know how large that track was!!!

Fabio Bacchini
Funksta Boudoir EP
CDR
Fabio Bacchini is consistently putting out some very hot material recently fuelling many dancefloors out there with his funk fueled sound. His latest offering is this white label consisting of four great disco styled tracks. ALL of them are rockers with my favourite being ‘Tomorrows Funk’. A full-on disco cut with a very nice soulful edge to it. Bring it on Fabio more more more!!

Lil' Devious
Tonight
Double Shock Recordings
Hold onto your hats, Mr Richard Earnshaw has delivered a monster remix on this release from Lil' Devious. A great funky vibe with some clever strings along side very disco sounding key stabs. The song is a good one too, not cheesy in any way and sounding wicked too. A winner for the floors and will be getting a lot of plays me thinks.!

Orekid
Yesterday's Gone
Guess Records
This was originally released back in 2003 on sister label One51 and now raises it's head again with new mixes from Richard Earnshaw & Mark Bamo Bamford under their Orekid/Spiritchaser guise. For "Orekid" they come up with some deep atmospheric and enveloping soundscape vibes in their 2006 mix and for the "Spiritchaser remix* they go a bit heavier on the bass us through to the main room for a bit of stomping!! but with the "Sole Unity mix" add a touch of soul to the equation working nicely with the vocals of Lucie Cunningham..

Raw Artistic Soul
Cutting Crystals
Raw Artistic Records
RAS come fourth with the first release on their brand New self titled label. Founder & Labelhead Phil Kullmann with his superb melodical journey style of music has caused a big stir in just a couple of years since his first release as Raw Artistic Soul and now sees it as the right time to found an own label to release his continuous high quality music, be it electronic, afro, acoustic, jazzy but always soulful. Cutting Chrystals is a great intro of what is in store musically from the label and is a concentrated blend of Phil’s musical style.

Liquid People pres. Conan Liquid
Song Of The Siren
Shack Music
Conan Liquid follows up his excellent track from earlier in the year ‘Breathe’ with this deep tech sounding track ‘Song Of Siren’. As with ‘Breathe’ this track is completely void of sample, everything is played off keyboards and drum machines (just like the good old days!). So check out the sound as it Conan take you back once again in style. Release on 22nd Jan 07

H&H Soul Survivors
Salsa
Beat Monkey Studios
Beat Monkey Records presents it's first series of tracks from a project calleded "The Instrumentals" Good staight forward music that will fit any DJ's set and deliver to the floor without hesitation! Two of the three have already appeared on the Bar suSU compilation series. The two in question are "2AM" and "Salsa" (which is my choice on this package).

Circle Of Funk feat. Mandy Senior
Games
Slapped Up Soul Records
I don't have much info on this track from Circle of Funk, it's a delightful soulful mix holding to some great vocals that have a nice 'different' edge to them making the track stand out well. The production is good also, opting for a classic sounding piano and deeper chords added over the top to complement the vocal. Should be around on slapped Up Soul Records..

Department Of Social Sound
Hold On EP
Bargrooves
Starting with “Dance With Me”, a subtle vocal hook creates an atmosphere of smooth and deep space tinged house. “Hold On” has a cool dominating bassline and techy percussion that takes the sound a little tougher and faster with the effective punching beats and laid back vocal. “Wonder of Love’s” main component is the bassline, the vocal is kept simple enough with the strings that rise and fall with the bassline, to create a build up which drops you back down to the raw beats when you least expect it.

DSF
Cover Letters
CDR
As like last months reviews I have another wonderful track from DSF, again showcasing a great song surrounded with soulful vibes to capture your ears. One for the soul heads that like their music deep and meaningful. This will connect well.

Hipp-E
People
Slip'N'Slide
Hipp-E makes another chunky appearance on UK label Slip’N’Slide with the haunting and very slightly dark sounding ‘People’. This is one of those records that has considerably grown on me and I’m liking it a lot. Another electro styled groove with some simple key stabs layered up with a impactful vocal sample vibrating throughout, but it’s the heavy beats that finish it off, perfect for the main room and the bar environment, one of those tracks you can take anywhere and it will deliver the desired effect.!
